She arrived in a gown with giant lettering across the front and the back. It was one of the cheekiest publicity stunts in award-show history, and had Twitter been around at the time, the look would have exploded online instantly.
The next day, the outfit made just as many headlines as her sophomore record, “The Id,” which debuted at number 11 on the U.S. charts. While the album wasn’t a blockbuster stateside, it still went to number one in the UK, proving the buzz worked internationally.
