Xavier Bettel and Gauthier Destenay – Together Since 2010
Luxembourg’s Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel, and Belgian architect Gauthier Destenay have been partners since 2010. They entered a civil partnership that year and, following Luxembourg’s legalization of gay marriage, tied the knot on May 15, 2015. Their wedding marked a historic moment, as Xavier became the first European Union leader to marry a same-gender partner while in office.
In 2017, Gauthier gained international attention when he appeared alongside spouses of world leaders at a NATO summit, highlighting the evolving representation of LGBTQ+ individuals on the global stage. The two do not have children and so far have not revealed any impending plans for parenthood.
