Tyla’s Sand Dress by Balmain in 2024
Tyla made a major splash at the 2024 Met Gala, and it was impossible to forget. The South African singer, who broke out with her hit “Water,” embraced the “Garden of Time” theme in a stunning custom Balmain gown by Olivier Rousteing with an hourglass-shaped clutch to tie it all together.
The dress, made of real sand and tiny micro-crystals, was literally sculpted to fit her body using a plaster cast, creating a shimmering masterpiece that moved with every step. Tyla had to be carefully carried up the Met steps to avoid damage. Inside, Rousteing made last-minute tweaks, trimming the dress to mini-length to give her more freedom.
