One tiny body lay completely still. There were no twitching paws, no soft cries—nothing. Dr. Greene’s face tightened. The team moved fast, each second stretching long. The word “Stillborn” hovered in the air, unspoken but heavy. Mrs. Thompson covered her mouth, eyes wide with worry. The joy of the newborn puppies quickly turned bittersweet.
