They Were Born With One Body and a Death Sentence, but They Chose to Live

More Than a Medical Rarity

Abby and Brittany Hensel were born on March 7, 1990, with a condition called dicephalic parapagus. It’s one of the rarest forms of conjoinment, seen in roughly one out of every 50,000 to 100,000 births. But numbers alone never captured their story.

Unlike conjoined twins in history who often led limited lives, they learned to walk, run, and eventually drive. They didn’t follow a script written for them. They created their own. Teaching became more than a career choice. It showed how far they had come. People often looked at them with surprise, but it was their drive and quiet courage that truly left others speechless.
